Brunt Extends Contract

Owls winger Chris Brunt has extended his Owls contract to the Summer of 2008 to put an end to speculation linking him with a move away from Hillsborough.

Brunt's contract was due to expire in the Summer of 2007, but the extension means he's contract to the club for an extra year.

He was sensationally linked with a move to Premiership Manchester City in light of his performances, and also to Derby County.

Brunt told SWFC.co.uk: ''The club made the first move a while ago. It's been going on for a couple of months but I always wanted to sign. I'm settled here and it's good to know the manager sees me as part of his plans.''

The Northern Ireland international is top scorer for the Owls this season from midfield, netting six times. He also netted the 'Soccer Night' goal of the year award for his goal against Coventry City earlier this season.

Brunt hasn't settled in to his usual left-wing position all season. He's recently been playing on the right-side with John Hills impressing on the left. He's also been used up front as a last resort, but is set to regain his left-sided position after Hills' hamstring injury.
