'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owls Back On The Beeb

Wednesday could well be featuring on the BBC from next season after the Beeb won a joint contract with Sky to show live matches between 2009 and 2012.

Only ten first choice matches will be shown for the first time on the BBC per season, but the BBC website will also show goals online for fans of the Championship.

The Carling Cup final will also be simulcast live with Sky, and the two semi-final legs shown exclusively live on the BBC.

Director of BBC Sport Roger Mosey said: 'We are genuinely excited about the potential of the Football League properties on the BBC.

'Our aim in the three seasons of our agreement is a simple one: to showcase the new acquisitions across all our platforms, and to make our commitment to football deeper and stronger at every level. '

Sky will continue to show the majority of the Football League fixtures from the Championship through to League Two, but the club should be boosted with extra income from the new deal.

The new agreements are worth 88m per season to Football League clubs and encompass terrestrial and pay television, broadband internet, video-on-demand and mobile services.

So it looks like Wednesday could well be back on the BBC whether they make the Premiership in the next few years or not, with the Sheffield derby with the Blades one of the favourites to make the top ten matches.
