Wednesday boss Brian Laws couldn't hide his delight after Wednesday made their hard work on the training pitch pay off with the 5-0 hammering of sorry Southampton at the weekend.
Laws masterminded the Owls' biggest win in over four years at a happy Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon and was quick to praise his side for returning to the form that saw them impress last season.
'I think it has been a terrific week of results for us, today was a terrific performance and I am absolutely delighted for the players because they are now showing the team spirit that we had last year,' Laws told the official SWFC website.
'It was quite evident then that if you work hard you can get results and today we have really performed as a team.
'You can point your finger at individuals and say Sodje has two goals and Whelan got two goals but, all in all, it was team effort and the only way you can get those opportunities is by hard work. That's what we showed today and it's credit to the players.'
The Owls gaffer will now have two weeks to work with his men with the international break giving Wednesday a week off from action at the weekend, ahead of another vital clash against QPR on Saturday, November 24.
But Southampton boss George Burley was left shocked at his side's second-half destruction as the Saints continue to struggle in the league.
"To concede in the manner we did was ridiculous. You can't defend like that. We've got strength and pace in defence so it was a shock to everybody," he said.
"A result like that is going to linger for a couple of weeks but we've just got to come back fighting."
