'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Esajas Mauls Tigers

Owls winger Etienne Esajas netted a brace to help the Owls' reserve side hammer Hull 4-0 today, while Luke Boden and Wade Small were also on target.

It was a useful run-out for an experienced Owls side, which included Lee Bullen, Peter Gilbert, Yoann Folly, Esajas and Kenny Lunt against a similarly strong Hull outfit on the back of an international break.

The Wednesday team also gave run outs to youngsters Mark Beevers, Rocky Lekaj and goalscorer Boden, with all impressing in the rout.

Boden opened the scoring before Esajas bagged his brace either side of the break and Small continued his route back to full fitness with the fourth with just five minutes to go.

And Russ Wilcox told the official SWFC website that he was delighted with the performance in North Ferriby.

'It was probably one of the best team performances I have ever been involved with at reserve team level,' he said.

'The attitude and application of our players was excellent and it was a tough game because Hull fielded a strong side including the likes of Caleb Folan, Henrik Pedersen, John Welsh from Liverpool and Stuart Elliott.

'We had a strong team too but I was most pleased by the way our lads went about it. The performance shows we have a lot of quality in the squad and if anyone in the first team takes their foot off the gas there are players queuing up to take their place.'

Small and Esajas are both pushing for call-ups to Brian Laws' squad to travel to QPR this weekend, while Bullen, Gilbert, Lunt and Folly will all be looking to impress to get back in to Laws' plans.

Good performance from the guy's and Esajas looks like to be playing well, just needs to keep going and his chance will come. Anybody trying to get in the side will have to work really hard or wait on an injury because the side are playing well at the moment.
