Kav Still An Owls Target

Vital Sheffield Wednesday understands that experienced Sunderland midfielder Graham Kavanagh is still a transfer target for Owls boss Brian Laws in the January transfer window.

The former Stoke and Cardiff man enjoyed a successful loan stint in the famous blue and white stripes earlier in the season but was recalled to the Stadium of Light by Black Cats' boss Roy Keane.

Laws was keen to hold on to the former Republic of Ireland man after his one-month emergency loan deal came to an end but had to settle for Kavanagh returning to Sunderland to fight for his first team place in the Premiership.

But he could well return to bring Kav back to S6 in January, after the midfielder failed to feature for the Black Cats since returning to the Stadium of Light.

The Irishman enjoyed his spell at Wednesday, featuring in all the matches during his stay and also netting one goal along the way, and could well fancy a permanent move to S6 in search for regular first team football.

And the expected departure of out-of-contract youngster Glenn Whelan would see Kavanagh as the ideal replacement for the midfielder as Laws looks to bolster his squad.

But Wednesday are likely to face competition from a number of other Championship clubs for his services.
