Akpo Loses Out

Akpo Loses Out

Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje has been pipped to the Championship's player of the month for November by Charlton hitman Chris Iwelumo.

The former Port Vale striker has been a big hit with the Wednesday faithful since making the Hillsborough switch, and was one of four players nominated for the award after his fine form throughout the month - which saw Brian Laws take the manager's gong.

The 27-year-old bagged four goals throughout the month, netting in the games against Plymouth and Southampton (2), while netting the second-half winner in the South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley at the end of Movember.

But despite netting one more than former Colchester man Iwelumo, the Charlton man netted the award for his three strikes - which included late winners against Southampton and Bristol City.

Also up for the gong was Hull City's experienced striker Deon Windass and Ipswich Town's Jonathan Walters, who both found the back of the net in the month.

Better luck next time, Akpo!
