Laws Agrees Transfer Kitty

Wednesday boss Brian Laws knows exactly what he has to play with in the January transfer window after meeting with the Owls' board this week.

Laws is keen to bolster his squad once the transfer window re-opens on Tuesday, January 1, as he looks to push on up the table towards a play-off place.

But financial uncertainty was thrown over the club following the resignation of Dave Allen last month, leaving Laws wondering whether he'd have to stick with his current squad for the remainder of the season.

But the Owls gaffer has been told he won't have any cut backs in spending following the resignation of Allen, although he may well have to sell to bring new players in.

'We looked at ways of moving forward,' Laws told the Sheffield Star following the board meeting.

'One of the things that was quite clear is that everybody wants to do the right thing for the club. Their hearts are in the right place.

'We have a framework to work within. It hasn't changed. We're not having to cut back any more; also I have to generate what I can. If I can generate it, I can use it. That's where we are at the moment.

'The board want to move forward and put plans together to do that; that's what they're currently doing. They have my full support in that.

'It's not about putting a gun to the directors' heads; it's about making sure we have direction and some plans; you can't just work from week to week.'

It's thought the Owls are expecting offers for young Irish midfielder Glenn Whelan to come there way in January, with the former Manchester City man's contract up in the summer, paving the way for Graham Kavanagh to make a return to S6.

Another name mentioned is that of John Hartson, who is rumoured to be wanting a loan deal to Hillsborough in the new year.
