'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Whelan 'Happy' At Wednesday

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has poured cold water over rumours linking in-form midfielder Glenn Whelan with a move away from Hillsborough in January.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 captain is out of contract in the summer, and reports have linked Whelan with a move to a number of clubs including Bolton, Reading and Stoke.

But the Owls gaffer is quietly confident that he can hold on to Whelan for the time being at least, after meeting up with the Manchester City youth product this week to discuss his future.

Laws said: 'He's enjoying his football and fully concentrating on Sheffield Wednesday. It has to be something special to drag him away from here.

'I had a chat with him in the early part of this week. He's very happy. It's not about money with him, it's about enjoying his football.'

And Laws also revealed the Owls have received no offers for Whelan, but admits he will be nervous once the transfer window re-opens on New Year's Day.

'When you have players who are about to come out of contract you're always nervous in January,' he continued.

'He's a player we want to keep. But the question is, will someone come along and ask for his services? Nobody's done that yet.'

lets hope he does sign - apparently he'll go for about 500k due to the length of his contract! worth more than that - someone will get a bargain at this price.
