Thanks, We'll Get Back To You!

Thanks, We'll Get Back To You!

The rumour mill turns, and Derby boss Paul Jewell added some fuel to the fire when talking about Owls loanee Michael Johnson.

Jewell brought Johnson back in to his threadbare squad for the cup tie against Wednesday, and five thousand travelling Owls fans clapped MJ on to the field when he replaced Tyrone Mears on 32 minutes. Post-match, Jewell said he wasn't closing the door on a deal but would have to strengthen his squad first, cheekily suggesting a fee of £1.5 million for the veteran defender.

Let's hope he had a smile on his face when he said that because he knows we don't have that kind of money! Johnson is in limbo.. what is certain is the guy has a desire to play, and his attitude and application have been present for all to see during his time at S6.

Speaking of cheeky Owls ex-managers, it's reported elsewhere on Vital and in the Daily Mirror that Paul Sturrock will offer 250k for Glenn Whelan.. our opinion is that that might be enough to buy Glenn's left leg under normal circumstances, but hey, this is cash-strapped Sheffield Wednesday we're talking about. Surely a derisory offer like that (if it has in fact been made) would be easy to turn down? Let's hope so.

if we dont get johnno i dont kno where he could turn, 1 thing for sure is we need to strengthen centre defence and centre midfield..... theres that zander diamond @ aberdeen who meant to be good and looking for a move south.... should be able to get cheap as he refuses to sign a new contract. we surely should be looking @ eastern europe aswell... a wealth of talent over there (as proved by barnsley, southampton et al) cheap cheap cheap

£1.5mill for Johno, you must be having a laugh Jewell! He'd be fantastic for us but he's 34 and only got 6 months at most left on his contract! If Johno's worth that, how much is Whelan worth?!

Yep - plenty of other championship clubs will have taken note of the good job that he did while he was here - and that while he is not going to figure in anyones plans for either Premiership football or long term, he could be significant contributer in a promotion push. And of course there are also plenty of clubs with plenty of cash available to tempt Derby and to tempt MJ with an 18 month contract. Let's hope not

Hopefully he's not a money grabbing ******** and we'll have done enough, both team mates and fans, to persuade him to come spend his last couple of years playing with us.
