QPR Line Up £1m Spurr Bid

Queens Park Rangers are said to be lining up a final offer of £1m for highly-rated Owls' youngster Tommy Spurr according to media reports today.

Spurr, who has his home kit sponsored by Vital Sheffield Wednesday, has already been subject of a bid from the R's alongside fellow Owl Jermaine Johnson.

But Owls boss Brian Laws turned down the first approach for the left-back, despite the need to sell players to enable him to bring new players in during the January transfer window.

But the Loftus Road club, who have enjoyed fresh investment in recent weeks, are said to be lining up a fresh, and final approach for the Leeds-born product before the end of the January transfer window, said to be in the region of £1m.

And despite Spurr becoming a firm fans' favourite at Hillsborough, an approach of £1m could well prove too much to resist for the cash-strapped Owls.

We'll wait and see...

I hear Mansfield Town have some good defenders ;-)

for 1 million i'd drive him down to Loftus Road myself! I like the kid but he certainly aint worth that much! I think we can replace him easily enough using a quarter of that money.

mick66owl
I just don't want to sell him at all but i can see I'm on my own with this one.
McQuaid-Owls
I agree - a lot of money for a very average player but who the hell ahve we got to replace him and who the hell would want to come to us right now if we were going to buy anyone?? I say keep him for now - he's only going to get better (only way is up???) and will be worth more. Don't sell - knee jerk reaction!
SuperOwls
I have to say that QPR are really making me laugh, throwing money around like they own the place. I mean, who in their right mind would consider that a club whos average attendance is that of a local pub team is a step in the right direction, career wise? At the end of the day, you cannot polish a turd and I cannot see QPR becoming anything more than west Londons "also-rans". I say keep Spurr and tell QPR to take a hike.
Smurf
peter gilbert at left-back? keep spurr
HootingMad
That is a good point, would definately have to replace him if he went!!
Walkley
Dan Gosling on loan ?? He's a year or two away from Everton's first team even though he signed today......anyway what am i saying were keeping Spurr !
McQuaid-Owls
not long ago everyone on here was slagging him off, in the ideal world we should hang on to him as there's an outside chance he may turn out to be worth 2-3mil, however we are not in the ideal world and £1m for a decentish left back is more a good deal, especially as we could replace him with someone just as good (although without the potential tommy has for 250k) leaving 250k to get a loan player until the end of the season, take a gamble on a couple of cheap youngsters (like we did with brunt, whelan, bougherra, franky, et al) and knocking half a million off the debt.... an entirely unromantic proposal i'll except but that is the way we're going to need to grow for atleast a couple of years before we can start thinking about holding on to such players as tommy when we get a million pound bid
wednesday4europe
LOOKS LIKE IF WE SELL HIM B4 SATDI GILBERT WILL HAVE BIDED HIS TIME AND WILL PLAY SATDI
mick66owl
if i remember rightly gilbert played in the last derby at hillsborough n he was at fault for akinbad-buy's goal!! lets face it tommy n gilbert aint worth a mil between em so a mil for one is more than a good deal!!
