Steel City Clash In Doubt

Wednesday's much-anticipated clash with rivals Sheffield United has been thrown in to doubt this week following the heavy rain thats fallen on the Hillsborough pitch.

The Owls' FA Cup 3rd Round replay with Derby County had to be postponed on Tuesday night following the bad weather, and the Steel City clash could well follow suit with poor weather scheduled for the rest of the week.

The Hillsborough pitch suffered a huge set-back in pre-season with the summer floods, and the Owls' clash with Coventry City earlier the season had to be abandoned prematurely because of the waterlogged pitch.

And the signs aren't good for the first Sheffield derby match of the season this Saturday, which is to be shown live on Sky Sports, with Owls' boss Brian Laws revealing the state of the pitch for the midweek clash with Derby was worse than it was for the Sky Blues match.

'There is no doubt the pitch was unplayable, every hole was full of water. It's worse than it was for the Coventry game,' he told the Sheffield Star.

The Owls' groundsmen will be working non-stop to make sure the match gets the green light, but a decision could well be made as early as Friday should the rain around South Yorkshire continue to fall.

If this match gets called off, I doubt I will make it to the rearranged match. If thats the case I will have 2 tickets for sale [Adult Kop] if anyone is interested.

Just read the article in the star about the attendance as well, looks like we will be lucky to have 30,000 in there, which is pretty poor. considering that most of the extra fans will be sat in the away end.

Not wanting to go on about it but its really p!ssed me off living a fair way away from Sheffield i went to the Watford game and Burnley away (closer for me) over Christmas and they still wouldn't give me Utd Tickets, got 4 or 5 mates (non Wednesday fans) who would love to come to a Steel City Derby but they aint gonna pay to see 2 other games just to get tickets. Don't see what Wednesdays problem is, you can tell a Pig a mile off just turn the little growler away at the turnstile!

they just want to get extra money out of the fans, knowing that many people will pay to watch other games just so that tehy can go to this one. looks like it could backfire though

Yeah its a shame, i was at Cardiff for the playoffs and we brought 45K, the fans are out there, i'd of thought a packed stadium was worth a few extra stewards on duty.

When will the club learn that it has to look after its fans, i understand we have debts and have to make money however we can, but surely this isnt the way

Well said Barton, I live away from Sheffield so have to pick and choose which matches I can go too, this being one of the matches I would have gone too but because I couldn't make the 300 mile round trip several times over christmas i'll have to watch it at home.
