'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owls' Passion Delights Laws

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was left with the same feeling as two thirds of Sheffield at the weekend after Wednesday ran in one of their most comfortable derby day victories ever.

Laws was in confident mood going in to the 119th Steel City derby and he came out on top against Blades' boss Bryan Robson as Akpo Sodje and Marcus Tudgay fired Wednesday to bragging rights in Sheffield for a monnth at least.

And the Owls boss insisted his charges out-battled their red and white opponents with a performance powered by passion, committment and desire.

'We are all ecstatic, there's no doubt about it, we are delighted for the football club and the supporters, who have suffered without a derby win for such a long time,' Laws told the official SWFC website.

'I hope that goes a long way to taking that bit of suffering away, they have got some bragging rights now and they haven't seen that for a long time.

Over 30,000 fans attended the clash, the Owls' biggest attendance of the season so far, despite strict ticketing regulations, and Laws was full of praise for the Owls' 12th man, who kept the travelling United faithful quiet throughout.

'It was a magnificent occasion today,' Laws continued.

'The supporters were absolutely outstanding from start to finish and gave the feeling about the place that if you were to get that week in week out, what could you do with it? It is electrifying and it certainly gave everyone a spur today.

'It wasn't about the football side of it today it was about the passion, commitment, the desire, and the tackles.'
