Whelan Rumours Continue

With the January transfer window now in full swing, Owls' highly-rated midfielder Glenn Whelan continues to be linked with a move away from Hillsborough.

The battling Irish midfielder, who put in a top-drawer performance in front of the Sky audience in the Steel City derby clash at the weekend, has yet to sign a new contract at S6, despite his current deal running out at the end of the season.

And his performances in the blue and white stripes have attracted the attention of Championship rivals West Brom, who've already bagged Owls' star Chris Brunt, and Watford according to media reports today.

The 24-year-old has already attracted the interest of Paul Sturrock's Plymouth Arglye and Burnley in January, while Derby County and Bolton are also said to be admirers of the former Republic of Ireland under-21 skipper.

Whelan has yet to give any indicators as to where his future lies, but Wednesday could well opt to cash-in on the former Manchester City youngster following the arrival of Ronnie Wallwork earlier this month.

no surprises if he goes. Wall work is no long term replacement though. For the last 10 years the sheff wed motto has been "lets find a quick fix to every problem". Ah well at least we stuffed the blunts
Norman
Hear what you are saying Norman but if he won't sign a new contract then there is not a lot the club can do about it.
CLIFFANDJ
Until he buggers off there will be rumours about him till then!!
will it ever happen
i miss the days of us actually signing people (admittedly it nearly sent us bust, but it where still fun tho)
mansfieldowl
well he plays and talks like he wants to stay but if the board havent offered him anything since august then whelan must surely think to himself P45 is coming so im off and who would blame him
mick66owl
Thing is we will never know if he really wants to stay or whats happening behind the scenes, all i know is i would rather sell him now than get nowt in the summer
Barton6435
Listening to him on the radio the other night before the derby game, he wasn't even interested in talking about him staying or not, not one little bit!!
will it ever happen
iam with you lee but if the board went upto him now and said heres 8ooo aweek with sum bonuses he would stay
mick66owl
if he wants to go he won't sign a new one and will leave on a free eventually
ozanne park rangers
so sell and get money at least
ozanne park rangers
Now then ozanne you have to do a lot better than this to catch me!! :)
will it ever happen
It's OK saying Wallwork is a replacement but who's he going to play int here with? Watson?? Getting too old now. Lenny???? Pleeeeeeease no!!!!!
SuperOwls
play Folly......... o wait we've sold him for peanuts!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
Have we actually offered Glen a new contract recently???
SuperOwls
take it you havent read all comments AUGUST last time they offered him anything
mick66owl
I'd rather lose him for free in the summer then sell him to Burnley for 500k or someone at the moment.
McQuaid-Owls
well theres only 6days left of transfer window so it will start to hot up now except for us. so will he or wont he go
mick66owl
I hope he stays, as he doesnt actually want to go. get this 'new invester' (cough) in and hope that they have the sense to offer him a contract
Walkley
well all i can say is if he stays still end of season there might be chance of a takeover and if he can stay til then there might be a chance of a good contract for him but the question is will he stay around long enough.
mick66owl
He'll probably go. It doesn't matter for how much because none of the money (or a minimal percentage) will filter back into the transfer kitty. So Laws should look at all the clubs after Whelan and line up a swap deal. The money is not the issue, the team is. If Laws can secure a replacement 'ball-playing' midfielder and perhaps nick another defender into the bargain too, then he has done good business for the club.
HootingMad
Can't see that happening as the other clubs are all looking to strengthen, we would want a good replacement ina swap deal so they wouldn't gain anything, especially uf laws went for 2 players
