Beevers Up For Gong

Wednesday youngster Mark Beevers is one of six top young talents to be shortlisted for this year's best young apprentice award in the Championship.

The nomination is a sign of how far the Barnsley-born youngster has come during his spell at Hillsborough, and whether win or lose, the 18-year-old is sure to become one of the hottest talents to come through the Owls' youth system in some time.

Wickes, who sponsor the award, announced Beevers on the shortlist of the third Wickes Young Apprentice Trophy, which will see Beevers rewarded for his efforts should he win, and £5,000 given to the club's youth policy.

The centre-back will be up against Leicester City's Joe Mattock, who is expected to come out on top following his inclusion in the England under-21's squad, Barnsley's Mark Devonshire, Cardiff City's Anthony Acheampong, Crystal Palace's Lee Hills and Tommy Smith of Ipswich Town.

The news is a further boost to Beevers, who excelled in the Steel City Derby clash at the weekend, after also being told he was on standy for England's under-19 squad this week.
