Laws Targets Premiership Striker

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is set to a sign a Premiership striker when the loan transfer window re-opens next week, according to reports from BBC Radio Sheffield today.

The Owls have already signed Bristol City striker Enoch Showunni on a one-month emergency loan deal, and is keen to add more following long-term injury set-backs to Francis Jeffers and Akpo Sodje.

According to Laws, he was all set to bag the striker before the end of the January transfer window but delays saw the deal scuppered, although he insists the deal isn't dead in the water.

'The deal got delayed at the last minute but he's a quality player with a fantastic goalscoring record,' Laws told Radio Sheffield.

'It isn't dead. I hope to do something when we can make loan signings again.'

'The Whelan money will come in very handy because in the last few months I've had to wheel and deal with no money at all.'

The Owls received 500,000 for the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international, and Laws has revealed that the Owls board have promised the full amount to bolster his squad.

aball2112
well theres talk it was earnshaw from derby
mick66owl
What about Benjani, hasn't quite made it at Man City yet?
will it ever happen
"fantastic goalscoring record", quite exciting, Earnshaw would fit the bill but i wouldn't have thought he would come to us !?
McQuaid-Owls
shevchenko needs to get fit
mick66owl
matt derbyshire perhaps?
aball2112
Derbyshire hasn't a "fantastic goalscoring record" though really, an also Blackburn let go of Gallagher on loan an said no more would be leaving, Rigters was supposed to be until Gallagher went.
McQuaid-Owls
Heard a rumour that it's crouchie from liverpool:-)
swfcjambo
theo walcott
mick66owl
wenger said walcott wasnt leaving, crouch could surely go somewhere in the premiership. will be interesting to find out who it is!! hopefully laws will do us good
Walkley
Anyone know is Brian McBride injured or why isn't he playing at the moment ?? That's a total guess by the way.
McQuaid-Owls
David Connelly..proven champiosnhip striker totally out of the running at Sunderland,
McQuaid-Owls
good shout, Connelly, I reckon.
aball2112
Could be a good guess, dont supose we will hear anything unitl it actually happens though
Walkley
this is exciting stuff, martins would do for me, yes i would just love it!
dbblue
I'd like Bobby Zamora, David Nugent or one of the young everton lads James Vaughan or Victor Anichebe.
Bigash
WOT BOUT THAT YOUNG KID FRM MAN CITY HIM HOW SCORED AGAINST PIGS ON SUNDAY HE LOOKS LIKE A GOOD YOUNG PLAYER.. JUS GET SOME 1 GOOD HOW CAN SCORE GOALS
100% owl
I'd prefer Fernando over Wayne please Brian!
S6Apple
Thats Sturridge 100%owl and he's got 2 in his last 2 for city an Sven rates him highly...can't see him comin to us, same with Nugent or Zamora
McQuaid-Owls
owen is surplus to reqiurments at newcastle
mick66owl
Owen is surplus to requirements everywhere .... bring him in and he can keep Jeffers company in the sick room !!
DB2002
I would take an of the above!! they all keep clarke away from the team and have a chance of scoring us some goals!!
Walkley
well owen was seen leaving the jonk/hincliffe suite at hilsbora thursday
mick66owl
Reading between the lines, King Brian says he missed out on a premiership striker at the last minute. Man City also missed out on a stiker at the last minute, could it be that Man City pulled the plug on our deal because theirs fell through. I think our target plays for Man City, how about Darius Vassell, he's never been an Errickson favourite, and would fit the bill for us.
doitforlove
good thinking thats a big possibility and man city still may get benjani so then that would leave vassel free to come to us
smiggyswfc
Heard today that Theo Walcott is to go out on loan for the remainder of the season, could it be to us?
will it ever happen
Where'd u hear that wieh ?? I thought he was adamant about staying and fighting for his place.
McQuaid-Owls
alan shearer is dusting off his boots. How funny would that be??!!
Norman
Could probable still do a better job then Burton norman
McQuaid-Owls
On Five live McQuaid. Didn't catch it all but Wenger wants him to stay fit and get as much first team football as possible.
will it ever happen
Oh right, well Stoke enquired about him a while ago, can imagine the neutral Wenger would prefer him going to a top 6 club who can actually afford all his wages then us..
McQuaid-Owls
I've had second thoguhts over Vassell, can't see it happening because his wages will be too high, so perhaps Connelly is the man. Heard a rumour that we are signing 3 players, one of which is Michael Johnson, the other is a midfield player.
doitforlove
its a load of ********* / derby youth team player
mansfieldowl
we got david graham from the premiership so im not gettin excited!! and as for showumni... *****************************************************************!!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
im hearing its definately connoly on thursday
mansfieldowl

boothe
Got the nod that it will be Connelly from Sunderland and will be here by Thursday!!
will it ever happen

boothe
Who's your source WIEH? Are you sure it's not going to be Rooney and Ferdinand?! and what news of a takeover that you seem to know about??
S6Apple
well rumours are flying around aperently its guna be ameobi from newcastle
boothe
Still can't believe we got Graham from the premiership, there's always one.
McQuaid-Owls
dint he get sacked recently by who evr he played for
boothe
yep lee just heard it myself walcott to come for rest of season as jeffers wont be back
mick66owl
Ive herd a strong rumour its Theo Wallcott, Wengers wanting to send him out on loan. Watch this space.
stevebooker
Back down to earth lads.... whenever we hear a story about a 'big name' signing for us - the rumours start with Kluivert, Fowler, etc. Then we end up getting some relegation bound premiership player. I'm not getting excited until I see some action. Getting Walcott on loan would be awesome
Norman
McBride has been injured! Back now tho!!! You can have Healy!!
oranje_emu
Derbyshire would rip it up, Connelly would also be the best we got, walcott is unrealistic and so are the other player everyone has been suggesting. Mpenza isn't getting a game and i would like to see nuggent or healy in blue and white or am i being realistic?
Gilley21
ive stil gotta feelin it cud be paul dickov from manchester city thats a realistic one
boothe
dickov is at blackpool i beleive
mansfieldowl
s*i* i before e except after c
mansfieldowl
dickov is rubbish a has been we need a certain player who will make a huge difference straight away he wouldn't.
Gilley21
well it werent him it was supposed to be conelly acording to star but hes got injured so hes gotta look 4 someone else
boothe
mpenza is a good shout, same kinda player as kenwyne jones, we need that sort of powerful target man
Norman
