Blackpool vs. Wednesday

Bloomfield Road, Blackpool

Saturday, April 19

15:00

Preview: Blackpool v Owls

Wednesday's fate is firmly in their own hands as they look to secure their Championship status in their final three matches of the season - starting with a 'relegation six pointer' against Blackpool on Saturday.

The Owls pulled themselves out of the bottom three with a point against Plymouth Arglye - their seventh draw on the spin - and Wednesday could well equal the record eight drawn matches on the spin at the Seaside against a Blackpool side who are also desperate for the points.

But a draw may not be enough for Wednesday, with the travelling Wednesday fans surely wanting nothing but three points to send them a long way to survival - and above Blackpool in the process.

Vital Quotes:

Owls boss Brian Laws told the Sheffield Star:

'Blackpool will think this is winnable, because they're at home. If they can win, that would put them somewhere near safety. If we win, it drags them right back into it.

'There's everything to play for. There's everything to lose as well. We have to have the right attitude and treat the game as a cup final.'

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson told the official BFC site:

'It's took a long time for this club to get to where we are and we don't want to give it up lightly. If it means the fans getting even more behind us, which is something difficult to do because they've been fantastically behind us all season, well that little bit could help.'

Blackpool Team News:

The Seasiders could be boosted with the return of Claus Jorgensen who missed out Blackpool's last clash with Cardiff City.

And Blackpool boss Grayson has no fresh injury concerns going in to the clash, with John Hills still missing out against his former club, while Keigan Parker has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Player to watch: Wes Hoolahan

The tricky attacker was rumoured to be a target of Owls boss Brian Laws during the summer and was a key figure in helping the Seasiders to promotion last season - and is certain to be key in keeping them up.

Wednesday Team News:

The Owls' injury list doesn't get any easier for Brian Laws, with Deon Burton the latest name to be on the treatment table - making the Owls boss sweat over the fitness of five of his charges.

Burton suffered a scratched cornea in the 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle on Monday night and Laws will give the striker until as late as possible to prove his fitness, with West Brom loanee Bartosz Slusarski ready to come in.

Wade Small also picked up a hamstring injury on Monday night but will also undergo a late test, alongside Steve Watson, Richard Hinds and Graham Kavanagh - who could also be set to return.

Player to watch: Ben Sahar

The Chelsea loanee may have been ineffective on Monday night but the Israeli has been bagging the goals in attack recently and they could be key on Saturday.

Would like to think we could take three points from this game, but wouldn't be too disappointed with a point. But we cannot afford to lose the game. Lose it and we will be looking at other teams to do us a favour, a big fecking favour!!

Come on Wednesday - biggest game of the season, again!
welshyowl
I just have a really good feeling about this game. A predict our biggest away win all season. Which means - 3 goal difference. At least.
RatherRandomOwl
Oh dear. I hate to say it, but the incompetence that runs throughout the club probably means we deserve to be relegated.

deary deary me doesnt look good now leicester next no way are they going to lose that game all could go down to the last game done forget we have southampton we could have a massive say in who goes down. fingers crossed its wendy!! good weekend all round really!! ha ha
bladesforlife1889
pigforlife you're spot on buddy, we deserve to be laughed at, if we can't beat teams like blackpool then we deserve to go down
johnnywalker69
just remember you lot last season giving us so much grief it was untrue.
bladesforlife1889
i suppose last season came as a surprise for us Wednesday fans cos you never really looked like going down until the last game of the season, whilst we've been near the bottom all season
johnnywalker69
end of the day johnny you have to stick with it, look at us in the 90'a always playing second fiddle to you lot we were bad back then - look at us when bassett left and kendall left we were well in the ***** and in a very simular sitiuation to what you guys are in now. its football. you have shown you have got enough to stay in this division all you have to do is perform like you did twice against us. i think laws has done well with what hes had to play with and is surprises me that some sections of the wendy fans are wanting him out. what do you think?
bladesforlife1889
I agree, i think Laws has done the best he could considering what he's had to deal with this season (and last season aswell), i cant understand some fans getting on his back. Football is swings and roundabouts, you have to take the bitter to fully appreciate the sweet!
johnnywalker69
your spot on mate, i'm a blade so i'm well used to the ups and downs, over the years we have had some right crap to live with and last season was no different. they build us up and knock us down just as quick. to be honnest i was really surprised with the blackpool result as i thought you would easilly beat them especially looking at the stats/ you guys have to put everything into the leicester game and being honnest i think they will beat you. it will all go down to the last game i you will beat norwich at home so it could be interesting. if you do go down least you will get relegated the right way unlike us, still feel cheated, but...... with 6 games to play we were 10 points clear so we only have ourselves to blame or mr warnocks negative tactics all season long!!
