With only two points seperating the Owls from the drop zone, Paul Sturrock's men will be desperate to bag three points against an inconsistent QPR side...
Owls boss Paul Sturrock has mixed news ahead of the visit of QPR. Richard Wood, who was initially ruled out for 2-3 weeks, will suffer another three weeks on the sidelines after scans showed he has a slight tendon problem.
The good news is that Steve Maclean, John Hills, and Peter Gilbert all have a chance to take part in the match and are likely to undergo late fitness tests. Should Gilbert and Hills be fit, they are both likely to start along the left side, with Gilbert returning to left back and Hills returning to the left midfield role that saw himself and the team do so well in the New Year.
Sturrock has recieved a further boost with the news that Jon-Paul McGovern and Steve Adams could return to trainign as soon as next week - but the pair won't be available for this weekend's vital clash.
The gaffer is still hopeful of adding another player or two to the squad through the loan market. Sturrock announced that he was looking at a player involved in european competition this week, and could make an announcement on Friday.
The Owls also have Trinidad & Tobago international midfielder Silvio Spann on trial from Japanese club Yokohama FC, but it's unlikely any progress will be made in time for Saturday's game.
Out of favour midfielder Craig Rocastle is also available for selection after recovering from injury.
Brunt has played just about as well as the rest of the Wednesday team have been playing recently - rubbish. But he can still produce that moment of magic that could win a game, and hopefully that moment will come on Saturday. Still the club's top scorer with seven goals from midfield, and has earned international honours with Northern Ireland in return.
Gary Waddock will be hoping his team's discipline improves after the club were fined £5000 and warned about their future conduct after scene's against Stoke City in December.
One big blow to the hoops is the loss of creative midfielder Martin Rowlands. Rowlands pulled up in training and will miss the remainder of the season due to a tear to his medial ligament on his right knee.
Goalkeeper Simon Royce may be fit and available after returning from injury. Royce took part in the club's reserve team outing but it's not yet clear if he will be fit for the weekend clash. Former Wolves stopper Paul Jones will carry on in goal if not.
Dominic Shimmin will still be missing from the squad that travels up the M1 after sustaining a groin injury.
Garry Waddock has had to make do with a make shift team recently, but Gareth Ainsworth can still be as good as any other QPR player on his day. Ainsworth made his name at Lincoln City before moving on to Port Vale and MK Dons. After failing to impress at Preston Walsall and Cardiff, he's now making a name for himself at QPR - racking up 58 games and scoring 14 goals in the process.
QPR 0-0 Wednesday
26th August 2006
Not the most exciting game for Sky viewers, but the Wednesday fans that travelled down to Loftus Road on Friday night would have come away relatively happy with a point against a Hoops side that had got off to a good start to the season. A brilliant defensive display was nearly capped off by the Owls nicking the game 1-0, and it maybe could have been had John Hills not been sent off.
