Blackpool vs. Wednesday

Bloomfield Road

25/11/08

19:45

Preview: Blackpool v Owls

Similar league position and a bad run of games suggests a tense struggle between the two teams tonight: Blackpool are terrible at home, the Owls terrible away, so something has to give. Let's hope the men in blue and white can give the travelling support something to keep them warm in the chilly stand-sparse Bloomfield Road.

Vital Quotes:

Brian Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield:

'There will be very little change, because I think the performance was much better. It was more aggressive, better passing. The one criticism is that we didn't put the ball in the back of the net and we had a fair few chances. We will check on the fitness of Steve Watson, Etienne Esajas, Wade Small and Peter Gilbert and, if half of those come through, we will be ok.

Commenting on his ringing the changes last weekend, Simon Grayson said: 'I am here to change things around. I'm here to make decisions - it's what a manager does. I am not just going to shake things up just for the sake of it. There was a reason for what I did.

'No matter who you are, if you are not performing you won't stay in the team. A lot of players have waited patiently for their opportunities. I felt this was the time to make the changes and am fully prepared to do it again if I feel it's the right course of action.'

Blackpool Team News:

Simon Grayson may shuffle the pack again, trying to find the formula for success at home. He'll be casting an eye over David Vaughan (calf) and Danny Coid (hamstring) to determine if they are ready for the fray. Loanee Mo Camara will head back to Derby so either Coid or Joe Martin will fill in. Were Shaun Barker, Claus Jorgensen and Ben Burgess rested at the weekend for this match, with victory over a table-topping Wolves side unlikely?

Player to watch: Lee Hendrie

Again, if you're going to pick a player you'd rather not score, the diminutive (insert combative midfielder cliche here) Hendrie on loan from the Blades and on his full home debut is the man. We knew Morrison would score last match... have a flutter on Lee!

Wednesday Team News:

Brian Laws could well start with the same eleven that had all the possession but none of the luck against Coventry. Wade Small, Tommy Spurr and Peter Gilbert are doubts. Akpo Sodje, Etienne Esajas and Steve Watson are the men who will face fitness tests. For once, it's not fitness but form that is the big concern, but Sodje's physical presence would be welcome up front.

Player to watch: Francis Jeffers

Can he make it through two matches in a row? Will he break his duck for this campaign, adding to the beauty he scored against Hull and a Preston-pounding penno last season? C'mon, Franny.

Both teams were struggling to stay in the divison and the men in orange had the upper hand, goals from Jorgensen and Dickov plus a sending off for Peter Gilbert added up to a miserable away day for the Owls.
