Glanford Park, Scunthorpe
Wednesday, January 27
ALAN Irvine will be hoping his Owls side have plenty of steel about them when they visit Glanford Park to take on the Iron on Wednesday night.
Irvine has seen his side win all three of their matches since his arrival at Hillsborough, and Wednesday will be looking to make it a famous four against Scunny.
It's another relegation 'six pointer' for the Owls, with Scunthorpe sitting just a place below them in the Championship table.
And while Wednesday would be relatively happy with a share of the spoils, victory will be keen for an Iron side who've been hit and miss in recent weeks.
Alan Irvine told the official SWFC website:
'Anyone who watched Scunthorpe against Manchester City saw they are a good side and well organised.
'They have players who can hurt you all over the field and are obviously dangerous from set pieces.'
He continued: 'We've had a couple of bumps and bruises but everyone except Darren Purse trained today. He has a sore ankle but i don't expect any problems. Francis Jeffers trained, which is great - so we have one back and I don't expect to lose any others.'
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins is likely to include new loan signing Donal McDermott in his squad for the visit of the Owls.
McDermott has arrived at the club from Premier League Manchester City on loan having already enjoyed a temporary stint at Chesterfield this season.
The 20-year-old is likely to start on the bench but Adkins could well spring a surprise and include him in his starting eleven.
Adkins isn't likely to make any changes to the side that impressed but still fell to defeat against Roberto Mancini's City at the weekend.
The wing wizard has been on top form for Scunthorpe this season, attracting the interest of Premier League clubs West Ham and Hull City, and he's likely to cause plenty of problems for the Owls full-backs.
Wednesday have been boosted with the news that midfielder Tom Soares has extended his loan stay from Stoke City until the end of the season.
Soares has impressed on the right side of midfield in recent matches and is likely to remain in place for the short trip to Glanford Park.
Darren Purse didn't train with the rest of the squad earlier this week due to an ankle problem, but he's expected to get the green light to continue in the heart of the defence.
Francis Jeffers has stepped up his return to full fitness but is unlikely to be included in the squad.
Irvine is set to stick with the same squad that beat Peterborough United 2-1 at the weekend.
Wednesdayites will be hoping Tudgay's brace against Posh gives him the confidence to bag a hatful before the end of the season - starting at Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe wins: 3
Wednesday wins: 5
Last Time Out:
Wednesday 4-0 Scunthorpe
The reverse fixture earlier in the season gave Wednesday their biggest win of the campaign to date, something which will leave the Iron keen for revenge. Richard Wood, Jermaine Johnson, Marcus Tudgay and Darren Potter netted the goals in the rout.
