Leyton Orient vs. Wednesday

Brisbane Road, London

Saturday, January 22

3pm

Preview: Orient v Owls

Wednesday will be looking to end their unwanted run of three league games without a win when they make the trip to struggling Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The Owls have taken just a point from their last three npower League One matches, a 2-2 draw against Charlton last weekend, and need to improve their form if they're to achieve promotion this season.

Orient need points for a very different reason, with the club sitting just above the relegation places, and will aim to cause an upset when Alan Irvine's men are in town.

Leyton Orient Team News:

Orient boss Russell Slade is expected to have Jonathan Tehoue available for selection after the Frenchman sat out the O's clash at Rochdale last time out with a hamstring injury.

Matthew Spring is also expected to be fit and available after taking a slight knock to his knee.

But Orient will be without Adam Chambers and Elliot Omozusi, who are both sidelined with hamstring injuries.

The duo missed Orient's draw at Spotland last weekend and the clash against the Owls will come too soon for their return.

Former Wednesday loanee Jimmy Smith is set to start.

Player to watch: Jimmy Smith

The midfielder never really made it whilst on loan at Hillsborough and will be keen to show Wednesday fans exactly what he's all about this weekend.

Wednesday Team News:

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine will have a strong squad to chose from for the trip to Orient, with right-back Jon Otsemobor the only player defnitely to miss out through injury.

Giles Coke and Lewis Buxton are both expected to be available for selection after returning to training this week following injury set-backs.

Irvine will also have new signings Mark Reynolds and Gary Madine available for the first time.

Reynolds could slot straight into the Owls defence following the news that skipper Darren Purse has left the club by mutual consent to join Championship side Millwall.

Reda Johnson and Michael Morrison, who've both signed this month, are set to continue in defence, and the inclusion of Reynolds will make it a new-look back four, with Daniel Jones expected to continue at left-back.

It's unlikely Madine will be thrown straight in for a start, with a place on the bench more likely for the former Carlisle United hitman.

Player to watch: Mark Reynolds

The former Motherwell man is expected to make his debut at Brisbane Road after arriving at the club last weekend. Owls fans will be keen to see the quality of the Scottish defender and just how the new-look Wednesday defence will do on its first outing.

be interesting to see who plays at the back am going for morrison johnson reynolds and jones need three points here
retfordowl1867
Wouldn't suprise me if he goes for Buxton Morrison, Johnson, Reynolds
Tentown-Owl
They murdered us at Hillsborough earlier in the season, how we won I'll never know, hoping they don't have all the luck tomorrow like we had in the reverse fixture.
sussexowl
Morrison - Johnson - Reynolds - Jones Weaver will be my choice for skipper and think that from now on we should look to beat everyone away in the lower half of the table and all our home games. Whatever else we pick up will be a bonus!
TheDon1974
Morrison Reda Reynolds Jones. Really need to get 3 points on the board and reckon we should but won't be easy. They weren't that bad at all when they came to Hillsbrough
McQuaid-Owls
agree with that back 4 thedon and mcquaid. although i'm not a believer of having a goalie as captain it makes sense to have weaver as captain in the short term because it is not as destructive to take the captaincy off a goalkeeper when he has decided who is to be the next full time captain. laws was doing ok until he took the captaincy off wood and ultimately i believe the fall out from that decision resulted in his sacking and relegation and it was unfortunate for purse that he was beneficiary

Wonder now that Purse has gone, who will be the next Wednesday player to be booed ?
ecco owl
who knows how those monkeys think, it will probably be buxton if a pass goes astray or something. like the look of today's line up. uto

jamesc1905
i blame purse, oh he's already gone. lets blame buxton, oh he went off at half time when it was 0-0 but we should have 3 up. hmmm who's left? ah yes the manager it must be him! sack him now
Hirsty's Shinpads
Totally agree Hirsty. Managers need time to build thier squad. Irvine has just been given a proper chance to prove himself thanks to Milan. A new start, nearly half the team are new young players and need time to gel. The only teams to do well and get promotion back thier managers. Drives me mad everyone booing after every bad result, people need to look at where we were 1 year ago.

What most of you guys have missed is the organisation that DP brought to our defence. And his reading of the game. It was this that got him into the position against Charlton when he gave away the penalty - coming round the back from the right CH position to cover the mistake of his fellow defennder on the left. Admitted he has made a few mistakes this year but who hasn't? And some of his performances have been outstanding - especially away from home. He was awesome in the first half at Bristol City as you guys that went can testify! That organisation has now been lost and we will miss it! It is time the boo boys started to support the team and the players AND manager. AI has had to make do with signing 'rejects' from other clubs for the first part of this season and you all expect him to perform miracles with such players! Now he can sign the players he wants get off his back, support the team and help the new boys settle in. If we don't go up this year then so what - a new team needs to bed in and I am sure that AI has the ability to forge a good team. What we can do without is the boo boys who get their knives out at every opportunity. This club started it's decline when an unknowledable set of 'supporters' played a big part in getting Trevor Francis the sack and our downward spiral began right then! Some people just do not learn! Give the guy a chance to produce a side and then see what happens!
Sivadam
Have to agree with Sivadam! Always said if you check older posts, Purse looked bad cause he was covering for mistakes of others. Having said that, think the new defence will gel, but midfield needed the total overhall. Lets keep the faith and see what happens. (although if we loose in the cup, maybe Irvine will not get time!)
Bexy1977
wow realists at last, totally agree with the above 3 comments this is exactly what i've been saying all season.
