Prenton Park, Birkenhead
Tuesday, February 15
GARY Megson will look for his first win as Wednesday manager when he takes his Owls side to face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Tuesday night.
Megson will demand a positive response from his side following Saturday's poor performance and 2-1 defeat at promotion-chasing Rochdale.
Changes are expected for Wednesday, but Rovers will be no pushovers after suffering just one defeat in their last seven npower League One games.
Tranmere boss Les Parry will no doubt be telling his men it's the ideal time to play Wednesday, and the Birkenhead club will fancy their chances of bagging a big three points.
Owls boss Gary Megson told the official SWFC website, following the loss at Rochdale:
'We have to stop giving goals away, it's as simple as that. We have the best goalkeeper in the division and he's beaten by an own goal and a penalty. Other than that, he hardly had a shot to save.
'We are not making the right decisions and that has to change.
'We are getting better games from the substitutes and Gary Madine has made a great claim for himself.
'He did everything right when he came on, I thought he was terrific. He won everything in the air and provided an outlet for us. He deserved his goal and did here today what he didn't do last week.'
Rovers have signed Sunderland youngster Robbie Weir on loan for the rest of the season, and with a view to a permanent deal, ahead of the visit of Wednesday.
The midfielder will go straight into the squad for Tuesday night's game but may have to settle for a place on the bench for his first match at Prenton Park.
Youngster Dale Jennings is again expected to be missing for Rovers due to a groin injury.
But Tranmere will be boosted with the news that both Ash Taylor and Ian Goodison have been passed fit for the game despite picking up knocks in their weekend clash at Plymouth Argyle, which they won 3-1.
Alan Mahon is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench again as he steps up his return to full fitness.
Showumni didn't have the greatest of spells at Wednesday but he'll be keen to get one over on his former club. He netted in Tranmere's weekend win at Plymouth and will be looking to pile more woe on out-of-sorts Wednesday.
Owls boss Gary Megson is expected to ring the changes once again following his side's dismal performance at Spotland on Saturday.
Megson was full of praise for striker Gary Madine after he came off the bench and scored the Owls' consolation against Rochdale, and he's set to be given the nod to start alongside captain Clinton Morrison in attack.
Isaiah Osbourne is also set to get his first start in the Wednesday midfield following his loan move from Aston Villa.
Osbourne was another to impress Megson as a second-half substitute at Rochdale and is likely to replace Darren Potter in midfield.
Reda Johnson is also expected to return to the Wednesday defence.
Madine's performances, and goals, have been one, and probably the only, plus to come from Wednesday matches in recent weeks, and the Owls will once again be looking to his goals to help steer them to a much-needed win at Tranmere.
Tranmere wins: 6
Wednesday wins: 7
Last Time Out:
Wednesday 1-2 Tranmere
Iain Hume scored the winner as Tranmere edged Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough last time out. Chris Brunt had fired the Owls ahead from the spot in the first-half before Mike Jackson levelled just before the break. The sending off of Zigor Aranalde didn't help Wednesday, and Hume went on to bag the winner.
