Charlton Athletic vs. Wednesday

The Valley, London

On Sky

Preview: Charlton v Wednesday

WEDNESDAY face a tough task of securing their first points on the road tonight when they travel to Charlton Athletic in front of the Sky cameras.

The Owls have enjoyed a perfect start in npower League One at Hillsborough but have so far failed to replicate their form away from home, with no points to show.

Owls boss Gary Megson will be looking for his troops to put that right at The Valley tonight, but they'll face a tough challenge against the high-flying Addicks.

Vital Quotes:

Owls boss Gary Megson told the official SWFC website:

'One of the things that we need to sort very quickly is the fact that we have played four games at home and won them all and four games away from home and lost them all.

'We have to be a lot more resilient and a lot more on the front foot because we look an entirely different side away from home than we do at Hillsborough.

'All the things you would view as a negative away from home are near enough the opposite at Hillsborough. And if you can do it at Hillsborough, you should be able to do it anywhere.'

Charlton Athletic Team News:

Addicks boss Chris Powell will make a late decision on whether to start star striker Bradley Wright-Phillips tonight.

The former Plymouth Argyle man missed Charlton's last game through a knee injury and although he's nearing full fitness, Powell won't want to rush him back and risk a further set-back.

The Addicks have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 on offer so far this term and will aim to continue their top form in front of the Sky cameras.

Athletic added Michael Smith to their attacking options from Darlington on transfer deadline day and he's set to be included in Charlton's matchday squad.

Player to watch: Bradley Wright-Phillips

Should Charlton's star striker get the nod to start after suffering a knee injury, he'll pose a big threat to the Owls defence.

Wednesday Team News:

Owls boss Gary Megson could include new signings Ryan Lowe and David Kasnik in the squad for the trip to London.

Both players penned deals at Hillsborough last week and could be thrown straight in at the deep end.

Megson is expected to ring the changes to the side that bowed out of the JP Trophy at Bradford City last week.

Liam Palmer (Scotland U21s) and Reda Johnson (Benin) will both be unavailable due to international call-ups. But the Owls have no fresh injury or suspension concerns for the clash.

Player to watch: Ryan Lowe

Lowe already has seven goals to his name this season and will look to continue his top form for Wednesday after making the switch to Hillsborough last week. Expected to make his debut tonight.

It'll be a 3-1 draw... to us!! lol I've been looking forward to this week almost as much as I've been SH**ING myself about it. We had a busy start, we've had a break and now it's a season forming week!! If we can get 4 points outta the games with Charlton and the MK Dons it will put us there or there abouts and give the squad and fans loads of confidence. Even at this point of the season letting these two take all the points will cripple us!! 2 points outta of the two games is a must... 4 points would be great and 6 would be the stuff fairy-tales are made out of!! We also have to remember that both those teams have ex players so throw that, sky and our away record so far in to the mix and it doesn't make for interesting viewing!
Owls That!

i despair at times. i like the signings megson has made but his tactics are too negative for my liking. 5 across the midfield sends out all the wrong messages and then when we inevitably let our customary early goal in we are totally knackered, so we have to change the line up after 20 minutes. pick the correct team in the first place and try and win away from home please

We were very lucky but I'll take the point. Thought we were gonna get shafted after the Charlton goal. Better second half, but still no were near good enough. We looked negative, unlikely to score and weak on the ball. Jones and Buxton had good games and Madine looked poor. Granted there wasn't much service so hard to judge. Now we are getting the odd injury and with internationals etc, it shows how small the squad is. It's very early doors and I remain hopeful but we will need to improve ten fold to be in amongst the promotion battle. I think it will most likely be playoffs rather than automatic but hey I'll take that. We missed out on some crutial signigs during the window so lets just hope it doesn't come back to haunt us.
