Yeovil Town vs. Wednesday

Huish Park, Yeovil

Saturday, September 17

3pm

Preview: Yeovil Town v Owls

Wednesday will aim to bounce back from their midweek horror-show at Stevenage when they visit Yeovil Town in npower League One on Saturday.

The Owls, as if you didn't already know, slumped to a morale-slamming 5-1 reverse at Stevenage on Tuesday night and manager Gary Megson will be calling for a big improvement at Huish Park.

Terry Kiverton and his men have endured a mix bag of results to open their season but will go into the clash full of confidence following their midweek home win over Wycombe.

Vital Quotes:

Owls boss Gary Megson told the Sheffield Star:

'I put the team out and dictate the way I want us to play. I didn't see any of those things against Stevenage. They must not turn round and say it's my fault - this blame culture has been going on for a very long time.

'I've got to lift them, but they've got to lift themselves because they get well paid. If you did your job as badly as they did you'd lose it. So would every single person in any walk of life. The footballers have to accept that's not good enough.

'It's [the blame culture] not just in the dressing room, it's at the whole club.'

Yeovil Town Team News:

Yeovil will go into the weekend contest full of confidence but they'll be without their captain Paul Wotton after he picked up his fifth booking of the season in midweek.

It will mean manager Terry Skiverton will be forced to change a winning team for the visit of the Owls.

Skiverton has hinted that midfielder Dominic Blizzard could come in for Wotton and have the chance to impress.

Yeovil secured the loan signing of Watford's Gavin Massey on Monday and the Town boss is still hoping to secure the signing of another striker in time for Saturday's game.

Former Owls hitman Steve Maclean is set to feature for Yeovil after signing on at the club in the summer.

Player to watch: Steve Maclean

The Scottish hitman helped Wednesday to promotion from League One before but now he'll be looking to score the goals against us for new side Yeovil.

Wednesday Team News:

Owls boss Gary Megson is expected to ring the changes for the trip to Huish Park following the midweek collapse at Stevenage.

Unhappy with his defence, players such as Reda Johnson could be stepping in at the back as a possible replacement for Rob Jones, who was subbed at half-time on Tuesday.

James O'Connor will also be pushing for a starting role after featuring as another second-half sub at Stevenage.

Wednesday have no fresh injury concerns but it's expected to be too soon for striker Ryan Lowe to start, though he could feature on the bench. Chris O'Grady remains sidelined.

Player to watch: Gary Madine

Madine has been in good form in front of goal and will aim to continue that at Yeovil.

Megson. You also get well paid to MANAGE this set of misfireing misfits. Sort it out or we'll be here longer than we would like. Or you could make me very happy and faunicate elsewhere.

Well when these fixtures came out i would av expected 6 pts from these last 2 games thats including Yeovil game and thought 2 draws wud be ok against Charlton n Mk Dons. But wot a shock, draw n beat to two teams n get battered by the new comers.Nothings ever straight forward when you follow the Mighty Blue n Whites.Come on today boys rally together and play like men and bury this team.Get some pride back and giv us the fans something to be proud of.

I dont care if we turn this round or not. Megson gotta go He must have lost the plot. Reda Johnson left back? O connor better than palmer. Let Coke go out on loan. Get Kasnik in and never get anywhere near the 1st team. When we are awful at the back. Rob Jones quite possibly the worst player to ever wear the blue and white stripes keeps his place. Reynolds defensively looks ok but does not get a look in. Lets get him out now and get Robins in. Or if he does love the Owls like he says walk and do us all a favour. And I don't believe any of you can defend his results Since he took over we have won away from home twice. Thats shocking correct me if I am wrong but Irvine had a decent record away from home. I am not saying he was the right man but i'm sure he would have done a better job than this imbecile. All Megson says is thats the worse performance since he has been here, How many times has he said it? does this mean He is admitting we are getting worse under him? I doubt he will cos he his far too pig headed for that. Rant over. WTID FTB

You should care if he turned it round. All he could do following the Stevenage debacle is win this game. He won it. On a personal level, I don't care if we're losing at half-time every game between now and the end of the season, if we keep coming back to win it's the score at full time that matters. Fair play to Meggo, he had the balls to make changes and they worked.

from what i can gather their first goal was pretty bad sportsmanship. well done to come back, i said my bit last week and at this stage I am happy to take wins no matter how they come. however i can't take losing and not even looking like a threat

Conceding too many goals.Thats 16 for and 16 against in 9 games. We got the 4th worse defensive record in division.Think O'Connor did well today and showed his passion with his reactions towards Yeovils unsporting goal.He may not be the best passer in the game but he gives 110% in work rate and doesnt giv the opposition time on the ball.Glad we got a win but still a hell of alot to sort out defensively.Agree about Kasnik though, why have him here if hes not to be played same as Uchechi it just doesnt make sense. As Megson got them for cover just incase of injuries and if so y not giv em a run out so they get used to playing in front of the crowds.

Just wondering if our Devon Correspondent was at the match? Their equalizer sounds like something out of Monty Python. Did Jones get injured colliding with O'Donnell? Is that why there was so much time added on? I had to rely on those occasional text updates (Yawn!) and do we need an emergency loan goalie or should we persevere? In fairness, we kept a clean sheet second half. Oh, and check out the Stevenage result. Was Tuesday a freak one-off or what? (For them I mean, and hopefully for us also)

We started well and scored and were cruising. Then came one of several 'drop ball' incidents (about 6 in the match) They kicked it back towards O'Donnell, their forward chases after it, Rob J and the keeper collide and he slots it in. Cue 5 minutes of arguing and confusion before the game restarted. We lost it and they scored again. Half time, bit of a rumble in the tunnel, unsurprisingly. Second half, O'Donnell made a good save early doors from Mclean and then we were in the driving seat. It would have been a travesty if we had lost after the drop ball incident, we all want to win but that just left a really bad taste in the mouth.

Last season Peterborough conceded 75 goals, second worst only to Bristol Rovers, they went up so it don't matter that we've scored 16 and let 16 in, it's the 3 points that count, so give Gary and the lads some praise for winning the game, last season after 9 games PLD 9 W 3 D 2 L 4 F 11 A 7 PTS 11 this season PLD 9 W 5 D I L 3 F 16 A16 PTS 16 so get off the manager and players back and support your team, we are not good enough to be winning every game 4 and 5 nil, so get in the real world.

Well said, ecco. It's only fair that praise should follow a good result and what sounds like a worthy performance in the face of adversity. That debacle last week sparked a storm of comment (61 below the headline). It would be nice if our first away win drew a similar response but unfortunately it's often easier to find things to criticise.

I like megson and think he's the man for us but at times have questioned whether meggys the right guy with regards to our away performances, last week was a one off I'm sure. We got 3 points yesteday and again come from behind to take the win, we wouldn't of done that with Irvine, he's turned us around and were beginning to operate as a unit, sure the team needs some tweaking in some positions but let the man have some time. Were only 4 points off top what's the problem. Uto

yesterday we played with two centre forwards and attacked, we haven't done that every time away from home. it worked and i hope we continue to play this type of way. from the results around our division it is becoming clear that there isn't much between most of the teams so it is worth having a go at all of them. there does not appear to be an outstanding candidate so far. regardless of league position at this stage I think Huddersfield and Preston look pretty dangerous, we've seen Charlton who don't look bad and the pigs haven't done much wrong and will unfortunately be a big threat. Keep at 'em Wednesday

like ecco said as long as we get 3 points that is the most important thing. we've got a few dangerous strikers now (when they are all fit) so we could try and do a peterborough and just outscore teams! lol that would make for decent entertainment!

I still worry sometimes that he won't be given the time he needs. I wouldn't blame anyone for reacting badly to the Stevenage game but please folks, keep a sense of perspective. If we hadn't have turned it round yesterday (perish the thought), I'm sure it would all have kicked off again. Another storm of negativity, and perhaps we're never going to be more than two poor results from a repeat anyway. That's just shows the level of expectation in and around the club. It can't be easy for GM either, but again I'm left to admire his honesty. I just hope MM is alive to the situation and less likely to act on impulse should we find ourselves going through a real sticky patch. It's a long season. There's bound to be some bumps ahead, but there'll also be some fairly memorable times too. I'm sure of that. We have the basis of a fine squad at this level and a good, experienced and professional team determined to make it work. I'm willing to be patient.

One other thing, I'd ask anyone reading this to check out GM's post-match audio on the BBC site. Interesting to hear his views on the rumours circulating around the club, Clinton, and perhaps an insight into MK's efforts to manipulate a potentially delicate situation. But specifically, listen as he describes his attempts to promote and encourage passing, possession and movement during training sessions. He's clearly frustrated that these efforts are slow to bear fruit but doesn't it squash any argument that he endorses some kind of '80s kick'n'rush ideal'? A slanderous notion invented by Bolton fans if you want my honest opinion!
