Preview: SWFC Vs Burnley

Owls boss Paul Sturrock will be itching to get his first win of the season this Saturday against a Burnley team who have won their opening two matches.

Steve Cotterill's men have made a perfect start to the new campaign and will fancy their chances against an Owls side without a goal to their name this season - but the Clarets don't have the best record against the Owls in recent years.

Vital Quotes:

Owls boss Paul Sturrock told SWFC.co.uk:

'All football teams have adversity but we just have to roll our sleeves up and work even harder. The players are appreciative of the difficult circumstances and they're up for it.'

'They are flying. They have a settled team and it will be a difficult game. If we keep playing like we have been, the goals will come.'

'Whenever I've asked the fan base to back us they've come up with the goods, and I'm asking for more again. They can be our 12th man.'

Wednesday Team News:

Paul Sturrock's job doesn't get any easier as another week passes by at S6 with more injury woe. Yoann Folly, who's impressed since joining the club permanently, has been hit with the news that he'll be sidelined for six weeks with a knee cartilage injury. Kenny Lunt is likely to drop back to his preferred central midfield role alongside Glenn Whelen.

Wade Small could also be pushing for a start after coming on for half an hour in the Owls midweek defeat to Luton Town. Small is currently recovering from a pre-season injury and may fit on the right side of midfield.

The current injury crisis at the club means that Burton O'Brien is likely to stick on the left-wing with Chris Brunt supporting Steve Maclean in attack as Wednesday look for their first goals of the new campaign.

Frank Simek should be fit to retain his place at right-back after the American missed training on Thursday due to conjunctivitis. Tommy Spurr should also be fit after suffering a virus.

Lee Bullen will serve the second of his three match suspension for his sending off at Preston on the opening day, and the Owls have Richard Wood, Deon Burton, Marcus Tudgay, Drew Talbot, Barry Corr, Steve Adams and Peter Gilbert all sidelined.

Player to watch: Steve Maclean

Maclean, the only fit striker at Hillsborough, will play in a key part in helping the Owls secure their first three points of the season. The Scot has worked his socks off in the opening two matches and will be required to do the same on Saturday.

Burnley Team News:

Unlike the Owls, Burnley boss Steve Cotterill has a full squad to travel to Hillsborough but is unlikely to make any changes to the side following their two victories in their opening two games.

Former Sheffield United striker Andy Gray will want to get one over on his former rivals, as will former Blades and Chelsea left-back Jon Harley.

Player to watch: Andy Gray

The former Sunderland and Sheffield United hitman scored the winner in the Clarets victory over Leicester City during the week and will be desperate to get one over his former rivals. Let's face it, former Blades strikers always score against us, don't they?

Burnley were no fools at Hillsborough on April Fool's Day as they held a revitilised Wednesday team to a 0-0 draw last season. It wasn't a dissapointing point for the Owls either, as it put them a point closer to securing their Championship status.
