MK Dons v Owls preview

MK Dons

Stadiummk, Milton Keynes

Tuesday, January 31

Wednesday could snatched the second automatic promotion spot in League One back from Huddersfield Town tonight when they visit MK Dons for their rearranged league clash.

Victory in Milton Keynes would see the Owls leapfrog Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town into second from fourth and give Gary Megson and his men a big boost in the quest for promotion.

The hosts will be more than up for the challenge, however, with victory for the Dons being enough to pull them to within three points of the Owls with a game in hand.

It's set to be a cracker at Stadiummk as the race for promotion rolls on.

Vital Quotes:

Dons midfielder Stephen Gleeson told the official MK Dons website:

'After the Stevenage game there were a lot harsh words said in the dressing room which probably needed to be said. For three halves over two games we haven't turned up - the second half against Notts County and the two halves against Stevenage - and we haven't rolled up our sleeves and dug in.

'It's a challenging time for us but we are a tight group and pull through together. We have been brought back down to earth - in two games we have got a point and that's not acceptable.'

Owls boss Gary Megson spoke to the official SWFC website about the potential involvement of new loan signing John Bostock:

'He's a good player and he comes highly recommended from the people down at Spurs.

'We have seen him ourselves, he has played in different positions and he's got a lot to offer in terms of technique, ability and pace.

'I would think the game against MK Dons is going to come a bit too soon for him as he only arrived this morning but he may be involved in some way.'

MK Dons Team News:

The big news at Stadiummk is that former Manchester United and Leeds United man Alan Smith could make his debut following his loan move to the Dons from Newcastle United.

The 31-year-old is expected to go straight into the frame for inclusion in Karl Robinson's squad - and the Dons boss has hinted that he could play Smith back in attack rather than in his more recent midfield role.

Robinson's men will go into the contest with fresh legs having not played at the weekend. The duel was meant to be played on Saturday but Wednesday's involvement in the FA Cup forced it to be moved back.

Mathias Doumbe will miss out through suspension, however, after being sent off during the defeat to Stevenage. Tom Flanagan is likely to come in for the French defender.

Former Owl Darren Potter missed out in that game against Stevenage and Robinson will give the midfield man until the last minute to prove his fitness.

Player to watch: Alan Smith

Who else? The Dons caused a shock by snapping-up the injury-hit former Manchester United man on-loan from Newcastle United, and he'll be eager to make an instant impression on his teammates and supporters at Stadiummk.

Wednesday Team News:

Owls boss Gary Megson could include a new loan signing of his own in the squad to make the trip down the M1.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder John Bostock signed on-loan on Monday morning for the rest of the season, adding some creative spark to the Owls' midfield.

Megson has revealed Bostock is set to be included in his squad but may have to settle for a place on the bench thanks to having limited time on the training pitch with his new teammates.

Megson made a number of changes to his team for the 1-1 draw with Blackpool on Saturday in the FA Cup. Gary Madine and Chris O'Grady were both rested and the duo could return for Clinton Morrison and Ryan Lowe in attack.

Winger Mike Jones was cup-tied so he's all set to return, as is Miguel Llera - both players have played in earlier rounds of the competition.

Midfielder Jose Semedo was also rested at Bloomfield Road and will return to battle away in the Owls' midfield.

Player to watch: John Bostock

Whether he starts or not, Owls fans will be keen to see just what the Spurs midfield man can offer Wednesday for the remainder of the season.

It's ok retford' they are without Potter still I think and we all know he's class?! (You can decide how sarcastic that was said for yourself?!) It's a big test tonight and that was before the signing of Smith, but every game now until the end of the season will be. If we win every game left we'll get promoted. This has become the critical 6 weeks of our season it's how we emerge after this run of Saturday/ Tuesday games that will dictate the rest of the run in. Keeping our players fit while grinding results out is going to be a proper struggle but if we can do it then the guys are capable of what ever they truly desire. WTID

Take a draw but a win will be massive, having drawn at charlton and Utd we've shown we can hold our own away at the other top teams.
