Preview: Peterborough v Owls

Wednesday

Wednesday could secure their Championship status in Saturday's clash at fellow strugglers Peterborough United this Saturday.

The Owls may well be already safe from the drop before kick-off if results elsewhere go their way from the regular 3pm matches, but if not a win against Posh would be enough to survive.

Victory against Darren Ferguson's men will be no easy feat, however, with United enjoying a similar upturn in fortunes to Wednesday in recent weeks.

Peterborough United Team News:

Posh suffered a 3-1 defeat at Derby County last time out and will target nothing less than victory against the Owls in the proverbial 'six-pointer'.

Defender Gabriel Zakuani went off at half-time injured at Pride Park but Posh are hoping he will be fit for the visit of Dave Jones's men.

Peterborough have a mini injury crisis at the back with defenders Mark Little and Michael Bostwick also struggling to be fit for the clash.

Player to watch: Dwight Gale

Gale is Peterborough's top scorer this season so far with 13 goals and will be looking to add more to his tally against Wednesday.

Wednesday Team News:

Wednesday's biggest concern will be over the fitness of Jermaine Johnson, who's been the star man in recent weeks.

The Jamaican pulled up with a hamstring injury in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town and he will be assessed before the trip to London Road.

Full-back Reda Johnson is also an injury doubt with a foot problem. Danny Pugh could continue at left-back for the Owls in his absence.

Gary Madine has returned to training and also played for the Owls development squad last week so could be in contention for the match.

Steve Howard could start alongside Leroy Lita if neither Madine or Jermaine Johnson are passed fit to play.

Player to watch: Leroy Lita

With Jermaine Johnson an injury doubt, Wednesday will look to the on-loan Swansea City man for the goals that could secure their safety. He netted a crucial goal in last weekend's draw with Ipswich.

We can't rely on other results to help us out. For a start, if Watford lose tonight then Hull are up. So the Dingles could well play their last home game against a side still hungover from all that celebrating. As for Wolves, they have to be favourites to beat Burnley, don't they? No, it'll come down to how we perform and I suppose that's only fair. My main concern is how DJ prepares his team. All the talk today is about calmness and not getting carried away. Hmm, if we start this one with the same 'laid back' approach we could find ourselves a couple of goals down in no time at all and having to lump balls up to the 'big fella' out of sheer desperation. I prefer the 'each game is a cup final' attitude except we'd have lost one from the last three and the other two would probably have gone to penalties. Still, maybe it's all a ploy to lull Fergie jnr into a false sense of security, when in fact we'll be so fired up and aiming for the jugula right from the first whistle that Peterbro' simply won't know what's hit 'em. Well, here's hoping for the best anyway.
