Vicarage Road, Watford
Tuesday, October 2
Can the Owls do the unthinkable and make it three league wins from three to transform their season?
That'll be the task for Brian Laws and his men at Vicarage Road on Tuesday, but the Owls may well see any points gained as 'bonus points' as they travel to table topping Watford.
Aidy Boothroyd has built a strong team with the Hornets, who are one of the favourites for instant promotion back to the Premiership, and they'll be looking to return to winning ways following a disappointing draw with Blackpool at the weekend.
But the Owls will also be full of confidence following their 1-0 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Aidy Boothroyd told the official Watford website:
'We've got Sheffield Wednesday next where we've got work to do. The players know that, because we should be finishing teams off like that.'
'Even if we'd taken our chances it would have brushed a few things under the carpet.
'Blackpool came to be solid and they were but we weren't good enough to break them down.
'I haven't seen the penalty incident but if you spend as much time as we did in our own penalty area then you run the risk. I've got no complaints.
'If we win our home games and draw away then we will get promotion.
The Hornets are likely to name the same squad that were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool at Vicarage Road at the weekend, with no fresh injury concerns.
American defender Jay DeMerit is set to get the nod to play against fellow countryman Frank Simek after coming through the weekend clash unscathed following a knee injury.
Damian Francis, Gareth Williams and Al Bangura are still missing for Boothroyd's men, but Douglas Reinaldi could be welcomed back in to the squad.
The former Nottingham Forest and Gillingham man may not yet have reproduced the goods that saw him shoot to fame under Boothroyd, but he's still a key part of Watford's team and should cause the Owls defence a whole host of problems.
The Owls will have a number of injury concerns going in to the match after Francis Jeffers and Steve Watson both hobbled off injured in the weekend win over Norwich.
Watson is the biggest doubt with a knee injury, and it could mean Jermaine Johnson gets a start, with Glenn Whelan moving in to the middle to cover for the former Everton man.
Marcus Tudgay will also be pushing for a start should Jeffers remain sidelined, though Akpo Sodje will also be keen for a start in the blue and white.
Tommy Spurr (dead-leg), Richard Wood (groin) and Wade Small (ankle) will all undergo late fitness tests but all are expected to feature.
The Jamaican international surely did himself enough to get a starting spot for the trip to Watford, and should be the key to causing the Hornets defence problems throughout the night.
Watford wins: 15
Wednesday wins: 12
Last Time Out:
Watford 2-1 Wednesday
Saturday, November 19, 2005.
Goals from Clarke Carlisle and Marlon King gave Watford all three points the last time the teams met, although Glenn Whelans late goal gave Wednesday hope, with Lee Peacock wasting a late chance to draw level.
