Wednesday Beaten on the Road at MK Dons

MK Dons
2 - 1

Tuesday 15th December 2015

Attendance: 11,422

Wednesday endured a disappointing night in the Midlands as they recorded a 2 - 1 defeat to lowly MK Dons yesterday evening. Goals either side of half-time from Carl Baker and Nicky Maynard secured the Dons the points and lifted themselves out of the Championship relegation places.

A fairly even first half witnessed little scoring chances for either side but the home always looked the more likely with their control the the possession. As the game cantered towards half time some fine link up play allowed Baker to put the hosts in front with a neat skill past the diving challenges of Pudil and Loovens leaving him Westwood to beat with a calmly place shot under the advancing Owls keeper.

After the break, MK Dons like Cardiff sprung the Owls offside trap allowing Nicky Maynard to run through on goal and slot past an annoyed looking Westwood. Who next denied the Owls going further behind with a fine save from Maynard`s shot from the edge of the box.
That, along with changes to the Owls line up by Carlos Carvalhal seemed to stir the visitors to life and Wednesday started to look like a team capable of scoring. Fernando Forestieri was denied a goal after the crafty Italian twist and turned but his firm shot was saved by Martin in the Dons goal. Ross Wallace ballooned a chance over from a long range shot. Before the Scottish winger created a clearing in the Dons defence allowing Gary Hooper to smash home his first for the club.

But the hosts saw the game out to move above Bristol City, who lost at Derby, and Charlton, who drew with Bolton.
A point now separates MK Dons from the bottom three after their first victory in six matches against an Owls side that could have gone into the play-off places had they won.

Wednesday now slip down the table to ninth, four-points outside the playoffs with a big game on Sunday at Hillsborough against Wolves.
