Wallace Wonder Strike Sees Wednesday Win At Fulham

0 - 1

Craven Cottage

3pm Saturday 2nd January 2016

Attendance: 19,263

Wednesday led by Scottish winger Ross Wallace secured their first victory of 2016 away at Fulham. Wallace scored the only goal of the match, as new Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic's witnessed his first match at the West London club end in defeat.

The game kicked off with fans of both teams believing they would see a New Year`s treat with the Owls and Cottagers amongst the Championship`s highest scoring teams. Wednesday named an attacking side with Nuhiu, Wallace, Bannan, Hooper and Forestieri all starting. But the first chance fell to Emerson Hyndman threatened Wildsmith`s goal, followed by Jamie O'Hara who just shot the wrong side of the post for Fulham.

Afterwards the away side started to take control and Nuhiu spread the ball out wide to Wallace, who cut inside and let a 35-yard shot that dipped into the Fulham net to send the travelling Wednesdayites wild. A goal worthy of winning any game. Soon after the home side thought they were level as Ross McCormack slotted home after neat build up but the former Leeds forward was offside, so the teams headed into half-time with the Owls one up.

After the break, Lonergan twice denied Hooper a second for Wednesday. Nuhiu also saw a blast saved by the former Bolton keeper at close range as the Owls sought a safety cushion. At the other end, Woodrow, who scored a double in Fulham's win against Rotherham, could have rescued a point but directed his header from a Jazz Richards cross over the bar late on.

The result is Wednesday's third victory in four games has kept them within touching distance of the Championship play-off places. Fulham on the other hand now drop to 19th in the table, six points above the relegation zone and they travel to Hillsborough next to face the Owls in the FA Cup third round.

Star Player

Ross Wallace
The former Burnley wideman has been chief tormentor of the West London side this season after scoring a thunderbolt yesterday and setting up all three goals in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Fulham fans will be hoping to see the back of him after next weekend's Cup clash.
