Wednesday continued their scoring exploits and charge to the Championship top six, with a entertaining and hard fought 3 - 2 win over lowly placed Bolton Wanderers.

Gary Hooper netted a brace after Fernando Forestieri`s cracker in the first half with the Trotters twice pegging back Wednesday through ex-Owls striker Gary Madine and a David Wheater header.

Wednesday boss Carvalhal picked a much changed side with Forestieri, Nuhiu and Hooper restored to the starting side. As Carvalhal looked to take advantage against a Bolton side low on confidence after narrowly avoiding defeat against non-league Eastleigh in the FA Cup.

Owls winger Ross Wallace tested Amos in the opening exchanges, before Hooper had his first chance of the night when he shot wide after being put through on goal by Forestieri. Just minutes later the Owls star plundered another goal of the month contender with a looping 30-yard screamer after neat build up play by the home side.

As Bolton looked to make a swift response, Madine had a shot blocked and Darren Pratley's follow-up also struck a defender. But, they got their swift response with Madine tapping in from close range, the big striker refused to celebrate against his former club.

The chances kept on coming for both sides as Atdhe Nuhiu's header was easily gathered by Amos while at the other end, Pratley fired well over into the Kop following Trotter's lay-off. As the half edged to a close Wildsmith fumbled a Madine header but gathered at the second attempt before any Wanderers players pounced.

Right on halftime Gary Hooper wasted another good opportunity in stoppage time, as he lifted the ball over the crossbar from inside the area following good work again from Forestieri.

The second half started with a bang as Forestieri winged a warning shot just wide, before Hooper put the Owls ahead. Following good work on the left by Pudil, Hooper close range effort hit Amos and crossed the line.

You'd of thought Wednesday would have learned a lesson in the first half but they hadn't. Immediately Bolton looked likely to respond. Madine missed a close-range header but Owls failed to deal with a cross a few minutes later. As David Wheater met Feeney's free-kick with a flicked header and the ball looped over the Owls 'keeper and into the net.

Hooper had another good chance, shooting well wide after finding himself in space inside the area with Bolton again going close to taking the lead when Madine's header flashed just wide and Wellington Silva put a free-kick narrowly off target.

But, the Bolton defence and Amos couldn't keep Wednesdays forwards at bay. Ad Hooper put the home side 3 - 2 up after the Norwich City loanee showed close control and calmness to slam the ball into the net.

Once again Bolton threatened to level the game up as Pratley shot wide from inside the Owls area and a slip let Madine in late on but Wildsmith saved as the Owls saw the game out.

A late Ipswich Town winner keeps the Owls in seventh place, but with 39 goal the Owls are joint top scorers in the Championship.

Star Player

Gary Hooper
Had the chances and scored the goals as Wednesday secured an important three-points on their quest for the playoffs. The spotlight will fall on the club now to see if they can secure the striker on a permanent basis or at the very least extend his loan deal.
