Wednesday`s little Italian striker was in the right place at the right time to score his 14th goal of the season with just seven minutes left, handing the Owls three-points and allowing them to climb the table to fifth spot.

Wednesday cemented their place in the play-off positions after registering a fifth clean sheet in six matches.

The first half was evenly-matched and closely fought with neither side allowed time to dwell on the ball as both sides played a closing down style. Ross Wallace had a long-range effort deflected for a corner before the home side won a corner of their own when Harry Bunn's shot was deflected behind by Lees.

Billing met Matmour's corner kick with a powerful header which was blocked by team-mate Nahki Wells with his back to goal. Forestieri's pass set Aiden McGeady free and he would have been through on goal but for Billing's fine last ditch tackle. As time ebbed away in the first half the tackles began to fly in and Whitehead fouled Forestieri allowing Wallace to have another long range effort that clipped the top of the wall as Steer made a flying save.

The second half began as the first ended with both teams not handing each other an inch. Westwood was called into action in the 50th minute holding Smith`s volley. Slowly Wednesday began to turn the screw and ex-Terrier Jack Hunt's cross was picked up by McGeady but he fired a shot past Steer only for Lynch to head off the line.

The Owls missed a great chance when Hunt missed a great chamce after Nuhiu`s cross. A warning as Wednesday sealed the points in the 83rd minute when Bennett won the ball, playing it to Nuhiu who fed sub Joao, who strided forward and crossed for Forestieri to slide home at the back post.

Town went in search of an equaliser but came up short after Lee cleared their best chance off the line from a corner.

Star Player

Fernando Forestieri
Identified as the Owls key man in the days running up to the match by Town boss David Wagner, and in some cases rather jealously by Terriers fans online. Man marked in the first half but following the introduction of Nuhiu and Joao able to run the game for the Owls. Fittingly he slammed home a move by the three aforementioned players to send the Owls fifth.
