It's Advantage Wednesday In The Playoffs
7.45pm Tuesday May 13th, 2016
Wednesday take a two - nil advantage to the Amex stadium on Monday evening to face a Brighton Team that could be much changed following a host of injuries sustained at S6.
Wednesday put aside a baffling decision against Forestieri, a host of Brighton injuries and duly seized the advantage in their Championship play-off semi-final.
Having been denied an automatic promotion spot on the final day of the regular season with a 1-1 draw away at Middlesbrough. The Seagulls found out a playoff night at Hillsborough is no way to recover or take it easy.
The game started at a fast tempo with both sides pushing on and Brighton came closest via a corner to opening the scoring with a header that brushed the far post with Westwood helpless. After Wallace nearly opened the scoring as well with a pop shot after a Fernando Forestieri lay-off.
The latter then thought he'd put Wednesday ahead midway through the first half when he fired beyond visiting goalkeeper David Stockdale. Cue absolute pandemonium on all four sides of Hillsborough as well as on the pitch. Referee Andre Marriner eventually pulled play back for an offside decision which proved to be correct upon replays, but at the time it only served to fire up the fans behind the home team.
Brighton`s bad luck started as both Connor Goldson and Tomer Hemed went off injured as they looked toothless going forward after their initial bursts forward.
Ross Wallace crowned a fine Owls` first half display as he fired a brilliant 25-yard effort into the bottom left corner on the stroke of half-time, once again absolute pandemonium and undulating joy in the stands carried us all through half-time.
Early on, a knock forced veteran Steve Sidwell off soon after the restart and Chris Hughton's side were forced to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men after Anthony Knockaert was taken off on a stretcher, the Gulls` danger man appeared to turn his ankle whilst trying to capture a long ball through.
Wednesday made attacking changes and that extra player advantage paid off as Kieran Lee slotted home a fine finish to complete the scoring 17 minutes from time after Forestieri played him through on Stockdale.
So, its advantage Wednesday at what is half-time in the Playoff Semi Final. The Seagulls now have it all to do in the second leg at the Amex Stadium on Monday night, against a side in the Owls they haven't scored past this season.

He was just everywhere and was allowed to influence the game from the start with Lopez sitting deep, Bannan roaming and Forestieri playing as an advanced forward.
