Wednesday secured seven points in six days after a hard fought victory over Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough.

Gary Hooper netted the game's only goal five minutes ahead of half time and as chance came and went it was enough to add three more points to the Owls tally this season.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal handed a first league start to young Cameron Dawson, and it was he the inadvertently created the game's first chance. He fluffed his kicked clearance and Tjaronn Chery struck a 20-yard shot forcing the Owls keeper into a smart save to ensure his error wasn't punished.

The visitors hit the the back of the net via Northern Ireland international Conor Washington's back-post header. But, it was rightly ruled out as he had pushed on Owls defender Jack Hunt to make contact with the ball. Daniel Pudil, came closest for the Owls as he hit the bar after a far post corner was headed back by Forestieri and landed at his feet but the Czech Republic star rattled the bar from six-yards out.

As the Owls started to dominate the ball, the The only goal of the game arrived. David Jones' volley found its way to Hooper inside the box. The former Celtic striker guided the ball past Smithies and give the Owls the lead at the break close to half-time.

QPR needed to reply and as the second 45 began they had a spur of corners and via one almost cracked home an equaliser. The inswinging delivery fell to Nedum Onuoha, whose shot drew an instinctive save from Dawson and cleared from danger after pinball in the Owls box.

Breaking quickly on the counter-attack through Kieran Lee and Adam Reach, the Owls almost added that killer second. Closest was a Forestieri chance as he twisted and turned, after neat build-up play on the edge of the area, Barry Bannan played a reverse pass into Forestieri, who shot just wide of the far post.

As the game, ebbed away, QPR had their best chance to level and it fell to their best player Chery. Dawson left his goal but could not claim the ball which ran to Chery, whose low shot was cleared off the line by Wednesday captain Tom Lees and shortly after the final whistle confirmed the Owls win.
