Wednesday needed a win, given the strides made under Dejphon Chansiri and Carlos Carvalhal. Recently some fans had even been calling for a new boss at the helm, despite the clubs in South Yorkshire proving year after year that rapid change of manager policy doesn't pay off.

With that backdrop the Owls headed to the Black Country to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, themselves under new management in the shape of former Aston Villa and Norwich City boss Paul Lambert.

Backed by a near sell-off home crowd, the Owls didn't shy away from attending the party and in truth stole it away from the hosts. Star man Fernando Forestieri turned on the style and ruined Paul Lambert's first home game in charge of Wolves leading the Owls to a 2-0 win.

Wolves buoyed by occasion started well and nearly capped it off with the opener. Conor Coady played in by Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Coady looped the ball over Loovens to set himself up but dragged his volley wide without troubling the Keiren Westwood's goal.

Within minutes, Coady and his side were made to pay as the Owls struck first. After a swift attack and fine cross from Barry Bannan, the ball broke and was pounced on by livewire Forestieri, who was brought down by full-back Matt Doherty. Forestieri then calmly sent Wolves goalkeeper Andy Lonergan the wrong way from 12 yards.

Wednesday needed to add a further goal and should have done so on 20 minutes but Barry Bannan's shot flew over the bar after good work from Ross Wallace, the Owls weren't however discouraged. After poor defensive work Forestieri pickpocketed the ball and broke down the left wing he flew a low cross the face of the Wolves goal and was collected by Lucas Joao. The returning Joao simply looked up and played the ball into the path of Lee, who tucked the ball home past the Lonergan and his diving defence, trying in vain to block his shot.

As half time drew near, thoughts in the stands turned to the Owls second half performances against Fulham and Ipswich where they'd dropped points. Lambert rolled his dice and sent on striker Dicko and he added pace and trickery to the Wolves attack.

Finally, Owls keeper Westwood was finally forced into action when he was well placed to pluck out a header from Kortney Hause in the 63rd minute following a corner from Jack Price. The Owls keeper held the ball there above his head almost to thank the home side for attempting to score. He was next called into action in the 77th minute.

Unmarked at the far post Dave Edwards picked out a headed pass to Cavaleiro, but somehow the forward managed to drag his shot right across the face of goal to end any chance of a home comeback.

Star Player

Non other than Fernando Forestieri, the Owls forward ran the game and set the Owls on their way past the Black Country natives.
