Agreed :phew!: Feeling the glow that comes with relief I even stayed up to watch the FLS, feeling sympathy and sharing the relief of others in all the right places. Then they finally showed our goal highlights and before I could hit the 'off' button the screen was filled with Mr. Morose, the grumpiest man in football. Yes, you b*$tard said I. We survived in spite of your best efforts to see out the season with one finger on the self-destruct button and bullet holes in both feet! If it's true what they say that style of play is a reflection of the manager's personality then I hope MM reaches one or two conclusions before subjecting us to another season like that one. Incidentally, and this might become a trivia question in the future, has Wednesday ever fielded an older side than the one listed above? Average age over 30. In fact, take Helan out of the equation and our youngest starter was Lita at a still-wet-behind-the-ears twenty-eight. Well it's one way of tackling problems with the old lairning cairve, nairves or naivety but I'd hardly call it building for the future. Wishing you all a nice relaxing summer :0)
Well said OurMaurice. Since we have had the new coach Gray there performances have been better but he can only field from what's in the squad. After seeing the successes and failures of Last years signings, would you be prepared to stump up a few millions in new signings? Quite a dilemma for MM. I wouldn't!
is the picture really that bleak? how good was the squad e got promoted with? before DJ came in last season we had fallen of the pace and seemed destined for the playoffs which would most likely have seen us remaining in league 1. we sign some new players in the summer cos that squad wasn't strong enugh for the championship and finished on 58 points (10 shy of the playoffs) in a highly competitive division. anyone who wouldn't have taken that before the season started is deluded as to where we are as a club. looking back those two long runs of defeats obviously damaged us but we were only battered / ou classed on a couple of occasions and on another day would have taken points out of some of those games. yes jones is pretty grey and doesn't come across well when interviewed bit then he is not a news anchorman. who could have done any better? we are improving, we are competitive and we are not easy to beat. we need a decent pair of strikers who we own but I wouldn't say there is too much wrong.

sorry for the spelling and missed letters, typing on a phone is not the easiest for me

I've said this before but I don't think our promotion squad was as poor as Jones would have us believe. Squad numbers were light, we were reliant on loan signings back then too (for different reasons) but we had a good strong side with high fitness levels, excellent team spirit and an identity we supporters were able to associate with and I believe that's what played a huge part in our brilliant home record. Don't forget the nucleus of that side started well too (four wins and a draw) but the first 'blip' seemed like the opportunity DJ was waiting for. I'll accept we had a few unfortunate injuries but the speed with which he dismantled that side and undid all the good work that had gone on before, alienating players and (some) fans in the process, smacks of resentment bordering on obsession. Everything that followed got kind of messy. At least we stayed up but I'd hardly call it progress. That's my opinion folks!
I agree with Hirsty and his shinpads. OldMaurice, you don't half spout some dribble.

I think Dave Jones was happy with the point at Ipswich by the way
Thing is andymac, he looks happy even when he isn't. He just has one of those happy faces. More to the point though, and speaking as a 9%er, when are we going to have a new Current Site Poll?
Does anyone really think that DJ is going to have enough cash to strengthen to make us a challenger next year. We feilded 5 loanees on Saturday. Llera Coke Prutton, Madine Maguire, Samedo, Mattock OGrady will in my opinion will be shipped out for a grand total of around 600k if were lucky. Oh and I don't agree with this list it is just reading between the season long lines. So that is 13 players out I feel we will be borrowing again for most of the season and DJ has already laid the ground bait for his resignation. Can MM affer him the cash to build this is a real test of true intentions Mr Madaric
sorry about the spelling ogdy kee boowrad
Here in 'Undisclosed World' it's hard to say for sure how much we've spent, how much we've recovered and how much we might have left over. Various reports suggest we paid around 1m to get Antonio & Maguire and 'money' for McCabe, Corry, Mayor & Taylor. All the rest were loans and freebies, wages and agent's fees. We probably 'sold' Lowe, Mike Jones & Beevers but for how much is anyone's guess. Your list andymac suggests the end of the Megson era as far as personnel goes and when the club announce their retained list (sometime today?) we'll find out for sure, but when it comes to wheeler-dealing time I'd hope to see more quality and less quantity but that would inevitably mean coughing up more than we did last summer. I suppose we'll have to wait and see (again).
I'd just like to add a few words about Miguel Llera. I do honestly hope that he hasn't played his last game for Wednesday although Jones has dropped a few hints to suggest his age is against him. Well he's only 3months older than Martin Taylor and 3years younger than Howard so that argument barely stands up. Anyway, 'Big Mig' has proved his fitness by filling his central defence role nearly all season and offering much more in other areas. But could we have got more out of him, and could we get more out of him still? Some of us might look back on those times when he was caught out for his obvious lack of pace and decide we could do better. Or those occasions when (following DJ's instructions to the letter) 'putting his foot through it' made some clearances look like aimless hoofs upfield. But then we had that sublime pass that set up our 1st goal vs. Boro, which also made me think of that scintillating run from left back and pin-point cross that led to Madine's headed goal vs. Oldham last year. Then there are his set-piece deliveries at free kicks and corners, and his ability to get on the end of crosses. The guy is more than just a 33yr old centre back. His versatility could see him play as a sweeper, or a holding midfield player with an eye for a pass, or an emergency left back. Or just someone to bring on to try and save a game with 15mins left. His commitment is as clear as day, the fans love him and we wouldn't have to 'buy' him. Lewis Buxton may have been Mr. Consistency last season but for what it's worth my vote went to 'Big Mig'. If his future lies elsewhere then thanks for the memories and adios amigo.
Well said OM. My sentiments entirely and I for one hope DJ does offer him a contract but on past comments by DJ it's highly unlikely. Going to be interesting to see how Rob Jones fares in the Championship considering DJ said he did not have enough quality at that level.

I heard a rumour about a month ago that was so laughable even I didn't believe it. The rumour was that Moyes was to leave Everton (Man Utd weren't mentioned) - He was to be replaced by Neil Lennon - and Dave Jones was to replace Lennon. What a ridiculous rumour. Even I would never repeat that one!!!! I've just heard that Lennon is favourite for Everton Job - surely not.
