Great result Owls !!! Nice to get a win under the belts dont matter if its only League 2 opposition if a confidence booster and thats Important. I felt that the first half was very disjointed alot of suicidle play passes and our passin just didnt seem to flow. However whatever Laws said at half time must have been genius, shades of the Wednesday we loved last season. I felt that Lee Grant at times was World class, had alot to thank him for saved our bacon many times with fantastic saves when it cudda been about 4. As for Johnson and little Wade small, I thought they were both excellent love the way Laws has them playing getting well forward, pushing into box and shooting on site ( Chris Brunt who ????) ......WHAT A GOAL SMALL !!!! whether you meant to they all count, and you gotta admit it looked great for the camera. Lets hope we can take this and build for Sundays match. Well Done Lads ! UP THE OWLS !!!!
Grant 9 (Didn't put a foot wrong); Simek 7; Spurr 7; Watson 7 (Some fantastic moments - some very poor moments); Wood 7; Johnson 7; Lunt 5 (Only saw him touch the ball once); Whelan 8 (Showed how important he is); Small 8 (Very lively indeed); Burton 7 (Got a goal but missed a couple of easy opportunities early on); Tudgay 7; Clarke 6 (Lots of effort but total lack of quality); Defence worked well as individuals but didn't really gel until second half. In the 2nd they got much tighter and marked better from set pieces. Shame Jeffers wasn't playing, I imagine he'd have got a hat trick.

I thought Rotherham had a good 15 minutes in the middle of the first half and thats always going to happen. They had chances, and the goalkeeper looked confident. I hope he takes alot from that and puts Ipswich out of his mind. Would love to see the stats for the second half, it must have been 80-20 at least. Negatives. We are not big and strong enough at the back, but im not bleeting about the guy who played against us last night, thats history. The manager must know where he has to improve the side and hopefully the next few days should prove he knows what he's doing. Lunt is lightweight, although I think he touched the ball a bit more than once, dont give whelan all the praise. However, we need a worker, a grafter, a Carlton Palmer and im not sure we have one on the books at the moment. It certainly aint Burton O'Brian, although I hope to be proved wrong. Positives. Keeper was class, whelan too. Clarke tried really hard and I just wish the one on one had gone in for him. I have been guilty of calling him a donkey on several ocassions, but I really want him to have a good year. Deon led the line well and worked hard, if he scores one in every 3 chances he gets, I will settle for that. Johnson & Small worked well and can only grow in confidence. Finally, you can only beat what is put in front of you, confidence going into the game must have been rock bottom, then going 1 down must have been a blow, they showed that class will out, and it did. Up the owls, roll on Sunday
i agree with the above ratings except watson who i thought was poor throughout he didnt pick his man up, didnt win a single header, showed no positional sense, backed off. tho he did make one good challenge, which was cancelled out be his specialist "knee volley" atempt at goal. oh yea and where the hell is folly? he would have thrived in a match like that!
Folly? He's gone hasnt he? Would have been an improvement on Lunt I think, Maybe. Would like to have seen one of the kids given a game in the middle.Although I can understand the manager having one eye on Sunday. Who makes way for Jeffers, or will Tudgay be injured. If not, does Tudgay play in the middle? and Lunt to the bench?
Folly's still around. I really rate him and think him holding and Whelan playing is the best combo we have on the books. Lunt is a waste of space. I still thought our defence was rocky and struggled and without Grant playing a blinder we may well have been yet another Championship consigned to a shock result. But second half, on the whole, we looked sharp and moved with fluidity and purpose. Small and Johnson on the wings. Happy days. Get stefanovic in to partner Wood at centre back and hope that either Gilbert or Spurr turns out to be capable.
would love to see Stefanovic back in S6, He's a class player, and as I remember the only reason he left in the first place was because he hadnt played enough games for a work permit. While where at it, bring Darko back as well. He's been banging them in for Real Sociadad for the last couple of seasons. (dont want him really, was trouble last time, although he was 21 then) Anyway, the chances of us matching Stevanovic's wages are remote. At 32 he will want one last decent contract, and as we have seen, and has been widely publicised, we dont have the funds.
Folly is clearly out of favour. I think he's better than Lunt. He either needs to be in the squad or to be transferred/loaned out. There is no point having wages being taken up if he is not even in the squad. I would personally like to see a quality centre back come in and Watson take that central midfield role.

Yep - you can only beat what is in front of you and when it's away from home, local derby, many old player connections and on the box can be very tricky. Now need to settle down, get the points on Sunday, spend some of the Brunt money on a decent (but fading), out of contract premiership player and then start the season over again.
